When artificial intelligence (AI) tools are used in health care, what values do they impose? Some AI tools may prioritize saving costs, while others favor patient autonomy or aggressive treatment. A new paper published today in NEJM AI led by Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD (Harvard Medical School) and co-authored by Consortium chair Susan M. Wolf, JD, as part of the Responsible AI for Social and Ethical Healthcare (RAISE) project, addresses the need for transparency and proposes a new AI labeling system to reveal the values and priorities embedded in these AI tools.
