Consortium Chair Susan M. Wolf, JD, recently presented at a conference on the ethics of AI in healthcare — the Responsible AI for Social and Ethical Healthcare (RAISE) symposium sponsored by Harvard Medical School, MaineHealth, Northeastern University, and the New England Journal of Medicine. Experts from technology companies including Google DeepMind, Microsoft Research, and Epic met with leaders from multiple healthcare systems and specialists in law, medicine, and bioinformatics to debate the values that should drive AI adoption in medicine and what processes can secure those values. The symposium was organized by Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, Marion V. Nelson Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics, and Editor-in-Chief of New England Journal of Medicine AI. This was the second international RAISE Symposium; the prior symposium produced influential guidelines published in Nature Medicine and NEJM AI.
