Professor Damien Fair, Co-Director of the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, discusses the important issue of reproducibility of results in neuroimaging research in an interview with Spectrum News. As neuroimaging studies often rely on a relatively small number of study participants, the results of those studies are not always reproducible and generalizable. Prof. Fair describes how magnetic resonance imaging research is changing to ensure reliable and generalizable results. Researchers are shifting to more collaborative grants with larger sample sizes, a shared data repository, and standardized ways of gathering data to help alleviate replicability issues. Prof. Fair is a member of the national working group for Highly Portable and Cloud-Enabled Neuroimaging Research: Confronting Ethics Challenges in Field Research with New Populations, a four-year Consortium project funded by the NIH. The Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain is a Consortium member center.
