Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) member Christine Conelea, PhD, leads a research team studying the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for treatment of Tourette syndrome and related conditions in young people. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recently awarded the team a three-year, $1.2 million grant aimed at studying the effectiveness of TMS combined with Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT). Dr. Conelea notes the study was informed by their engagement with members of the Tourette community. According to a news item by the UMN Medical School, researchers will begin recruiting participants for the clinical trial this spring.
