Prof. Susan M. Wolf spoke today on "The Challenge of Creating Rules for Translational Science: Return of Results and Incidental Findings in Genomics" as part of the Center for Bioethics Seminar Series. Prof. Wolf presented to a diverse group that included researchers, physicians, geneticists, bioethicists and even a group of high-school students from Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota. In a series of NIH-funded grants beginning in 2005, Prof. Wolf has been leading work on how and when genomic research results and incidental findings should be offered to research participants, patients, and families. Her talk described what's been accomplished over 10 years of study and debate and the future of genomics in medicine and public health in light of President Obama's recent announcement of a new Precision Medicine Initiative.
