Researchers Develop Microinjection Robot to Aid Genetic Experiments

Microinjection Robot
May 31, 2024

Researchers with the UMN Genomics Center’s Innovation Lab and the College of Science and Engineering are working to commercialize a new robot that improves the intricate microinjection process currently used for cloning, in vitro fertilization, cell labeling, cryopreservation and more. The innovative robotic technology, which uses machine learning to automate the labor-intensive microinjection process, will increase the speed and reliability of experiments. It will also allow researchers to conduct genetic studies that are nearly impossible using manual methods, including large-scale research projects. The team’s research is featured in a recent issue of the scientific journal GENETICS. The UMN Genomic Center is a Consortium Member Center.
