Consortium Co-Chair Francis X. Shen, JD, PhD, and Consortium Chair Susan M. Wolf, JD, are among co-authors of a new report providing urgently needed guidance on ethical and legal concerns raised by rapidly expanding access to portable magnetic resonance imaging (pMRI) technology in brain research. The article published in the Journal of Law and the Biosciences, Ethical, Legal, and Policy Challenges in Field-Based Neuroimaging Research Using Emerging Portable MRI Technologies: Guidance for Investigators and for Oversight, offers 15 concrete recommendations for researchers, participant communities, and oversight authorities when deploying portable MRI scanners in neuroscience research. Development of the publication was supported by a 4-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) BRAIN Initiative.
