The UMN School of Public Health has established a new endowed chair in honor of Michael Osterholm, PhD, a distinguished faculty member in the school for 48 years. The endowed chair recognizes the extensive and important contributions to the field of infectious disease that Dr. Osterholm has made throughout his career. Dr. Osterholm is a University of Minnesota Regents Professor and McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health. He’s Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), Distinguished Teaching Professor in the School of Public Health’s Division of Environmental Health Sciences, professor in the UMN Technological Leadership Institute in the College of Science and Engineering, and an adjunct professor in the Medical School. He is the coauthor of two bestselling books, “Living Terrors: What America Needs to Know to Survive the Coming Bioterrorist Catastrophe” (2000) and “Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs” (2017). Recruitment of the first Michael T. Osterholm Endowed Chair in Infectious Disease Research and Policy is underway. The successful candidate will have expertise in infectious disease research, be a School of Public Health faculty member, and work closely with CIDRAP, a Consortium Member Center that is directed by Dr. Osterholm. As the longtime CIDRAP Director, Dr. Osterholm says he looks forward to working with the new chair for years to come.
