The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have published the Proceedings of an innovative workshop addressing the need for ethics guidance to support research leaders, especially in the context of larger teams and research networks, This new publication, “On Leading a Lab: Strengthening Scientific Leadership in Responsible Research,” reports on a workshop held Dec. 4–5, 2023. The workshop explored the need for new resources to support leaders of research laboratories, centers, and collaboratives as they build a team culture and practices focused on integrity, trust, and research excellence. Susan M. Wolf, JD, Chair of the Consortium on Law and Values, served on the workshop’s Planning Committee and co-authored the publication’s Preface. The work dovetails with the Consortium’s National Science Foundation-funded NetEthics program, developing guidance to support the ethical and responsible conduct of research by large engineering research networks.
