Led by Dr. Brian A. Nosek of the Center for Open Science and University of Virginia, members of the National Academies’ Strategic Council for Research Excellence, Integrity, and Trust have posted a new paper designed to help researchers, their institutions, and the public evaluate the trustworthiness of research findings. “A Framework for Assessing the Trustworthiness of Research Findings” is available on MetaArXiv Preprints. The framework identifies seven key components of trustworthy research, including research oversight, data sharing, peer review, generalizability, accuracy and validity, appropriate measures, and claims supported by evidence. Consortium Chair Susan M. Wolf, JD, is a co-author on the paper and a member of the Strategic Council. Other authors in addition to Dr. Nosek are Council members David B. Allison, PhD, Indiana University-Bloomington; Kathleen Hall Jamieson, PhD, University of Pennsylvania; Marcia McNutt, PhD, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM); and A. Beau Nielsen, MS, NASEM.
