In a new piece published in Foreign Affairs, authors Michael Osterholm, PhD, MPH, and Mark Olshaker advocate for significant investments in countermeasures, such as better vaccines and adequate supplies to counteract future global pandemics. Osterholm, Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), and Olshaker, writer and documentary filmmaker, sound the alert that despite the recent COVID-19 crisis, the world is unprepared to manage the next pandemic, putting human health at risk. Worldwide manufacturing capabilities and distribution networks require major improvements. CIDRAP is a Consortium Member Center.
