The University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment (IonE), a Consortium Member Center, has opened the application process and nominations for the 2025 Sustainable Land and Water Resources Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The research opportunity is a partnership between Salish Kootenai College in Montana, Institute on the Environment, Polar Geospatial Center, Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area Long Term Ecological Research program, and St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. The 10-week summer program weaves together Indigenous knowledge with Western knowledge to advance scientific understanding and support Tribal management decisions. Selected students will experience community-based participatory research and join diverse interdisciplinary research teams as they learn to improve land and water management practices. Projects take place at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; the Fond du Lac Reservation in northern Minnesota; and Salish Kootenai College on the Flathead Reservation in Montana. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be undergraduate students majoring in civil engineering, geosciences, ecology, mathematics, social sciences, or related fields. The deadline to apply is Feb. 2, 2025. Visit http://reuslawr.org for more information and to fill out an application. Or fill out an online form to nominate a student.
